Bad Ass Coffee Ride

February 4, 2015

Dennis has been talking about Bad Ass Coffee since our first unofficial ride to Naples back in January.  He has been there several times and said it was worth the stop so I did a little research and that was our destination.

Al Lowich arrived on Monday evening and will join us on future rides until he is ready to go back to cold NJ later this month.  He is happy to be riding again after some time off the bike due to the weather conditions.  Al Porter stayed a few days too ( see the Marco ride)  and was able to join us for the ride today.

So the crew today was Dennis Whitney, Al Porter, Al Lowich, Bob Wood and yours truly  We headed to Naples via Crayton Road and Gulf Shore Drive for a scenic ride to Naples stopping at the pier for some outstanding views of the Gulf of Mexico.  It was Al Lowich's first time there so we waited with the bikes while he went to see the view.

We rode down Gordon Drive which is the Port Royal section of Naples.  One word....money.  Nothing else needs to be said.   We added some miles by doing some of the five "fingers" which is nothing more than picking a road and riding down to the cul de sac and returning to Gordon Drive.  The are five of these major avenues and they somehow connect but I didn't want to get lost so each time we picked a "finger" we returned to Gordon Drive.  We ended up doing two fingers.  Beautiful houses with Bentley's parked in the driveways of some of the houses.   Out of my league....thankfully.

We started back to find the coffee shop.  We did a few turn arounds on the streets when we realized that we missed it but did find it without too much more trouble.

Today's PFW SW-FL contingent.

Some of the sights on our visit to the coffee shop.   Laura....some coffee beans from this shop will be heading your way once Al Lowich heads back to NJ.

Al Porter shared his muffin and Dennis bought my coffee.  Thank you guys for that!

Here is a link with some information on the company.

We had a nice conversation with a couple while we were sitting outside enjoying the sites...and the weather.....and they graciously let me share their table .  Turns out they are from Baltimore.  However, we ended up talking about the arts and they were very familiar with the Grounds for Sculpture.  Small world.  Wait.....isn't that a Princeton coffee shop?  I have too many coffee thoughts in my head.

Al Porter saw another site that will become obsolete very soon.....a paper copy of the NY Times.  With technology this is quickly becoming a thing of the past!

We headed directly back to the start and finished the ride before lunch....as the ride description states.   Bob Wood headed back home since he rode to the ride this morning.  I got him to agree to ride once a week with me after the rest of the PFW riders head back to NJ at the end of the month.   I hope he keeps his promise!!!
